ACTIVITIES: RURAL WATERSERVICES: ·Siting---Identifying sites for the drilling of the boreholes ·Drilling --Making a choice on the type of drilling and execution of the boreholes ·Borehole development – Equipping the borehole with PVC pipes, screens, gravel, making sanitary seals with bentonite and cement to prevent surface water infiltration thereby not contaminating the aquifer. ·Pump testing & Calculating installation depth – For testing the yield of the borehole and also for the calculation of the installation depth of the pumps ·Water quality analysis – Checking the quality of the water in a laboratory to find out if there are any undesirable elements in the water and also to know if the water is safe for drinking and it does not contain any disease causing bacteria. ·Construction of platform - ·Choice of Hand pumps/ installation of pumps – Each country has a choice of pumps depending on the existence of pumps and spares availability ·Construction of Super Structures - ·Training of pump care takers/ Mechanic – The sustenance of the pumps depends on the training of the pump caretakers and the mechanics, good training and usage methods ensures long life of the pump ·Setting up & managing a viable distribution of spare parts for the pumps-In addition to the training of the mechanics the spares should be available at close range, it is therefore very essential for the setting up and managing of shops selling spares close to the project sites.
